2012 Theme

What Does 2012 have in Store for us at Landover Hills Baptist Church?
As I mentioned last week “Things Cannot Stay the Same because Revival is Needed” … it all depends on EACH & EVERYONE – experiencing needed Revival …  In preparing for 2012 – I began praying about areas of the church life that we needed to be focused on as we move forward to where and what God would have us do in 2012.I was taken to the book of Judges in my devotional reading late last year – and I began to see & understand clearer a “cycle that took place in the lives of the Israelites.” It was a “Cycle of Sin” that they could not break free from as the attempted to follow God.

So I asked myself: “Why?”

Then after several days / weeks of searching and seeking an answer – God showed me a verse of Scripture that I had read before – studied before – knew was in the Bible – but … it LEAPED off the PAGE to me …

It is this verse that I have chosen as our Yearly verse:

Yearly Verse:           “Judges 2:10”

Judges 2:10. All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.

This will be placed in our bulletin / for reference to for 2012 to help us focus on a few keys aspects of leading us in this coming year.
That we would engage the generations of our church and train and equip them that this (Vs 10) does not happen here at Landover Hills Baptist Church.
That we would engage all that come to this place of worship that with the thought and hope of leading people into a personal relationship with God – by LIVING and TELLING then what God has done in our lives.

From that Yearly Verse was developed our Yearly Theme which will guide our decisions and involvement for 2012…
Yearly Theme:         “Know God and Make Him Known”

This as well will be placed in our bulletin for the year of 2012. It is of vital importance that we come to understand this is part of our very being as believers.
To Know God – (To engage our self in an intimate personal – ongoing – growing – healthy relationship with God)
This is the “spring-board” to Reading / Listening the Word of God in a Chronological Order.
How can we Know God  – if we don’t spend time in His Word – learning about Him?
How can we Know God – if we spend more time “watching TV” that reading His Word?
How can we Know God – if we spend more time “Wasting time” than reading His Word?
How can we Know God – if we read the “tabloids & other trashy stuff” than reading the Word of God?
How can we Know God – if we spend more time “gossiping” than reading the Word of God?
How can we Know God – if we never spend any more time with Him than at “church?” (1 hr 15 min a week) or (Maybe 2 hours if we attend Bible Study or a meeting)
This leads me to the conclusion that IF WE DO NOT KNOW HIM – HOW – CAN WE MAKE HIM KNOWN?
We can’t!!!!

To Make Him Known – (this is the crossroads of our mission as believers – to express – to share – to witness – to make Him Known to others)
We MUST become a people that engages / tells / witnesses / other people about God and what He has done in our life!
We MUST become a people that are not timid about sharing our FAITH!
We MUST become a people that are influencing the lives of others by the Power of the Gospel!
We MUST become a people that are impacting the culture around us – everywhere we go!
We MUST become a people that are NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST – but IT IS THE POWER OF THE SALVATION! (Rom 1:16)

I want us to come to Know God – greater than in the past history of this church – greater than before in your personal life – greater that anything thing that you have attempted to do in your life!

I want us to Make Him Known – to as many people as possible – in as many ways as available – as clearly as possible through all areas of our lives!

From this Yearly Verse and Yearly Theme … was developed the next phase of our focus for 2012 …
Quarterly Mission Outreach

We will be engaging ourselves in a Quarterly Mission outreach in our local / regional community! Landover Hills has for decades always been good “givers” when it comes to Missions! In the previous few years our Missions giving has been $40 – 44,000 for the years! Great – Thank You – Praise God!
However, we *EVERYONE and from EVERY AGE … are missing something in our Missions Effort. We are not going and doing as we should.
We need to be engaging and involving ourselves in Missions – we need to get our hands as active in doing as they are active in giving!
Each ¼ of 2012 – we will have a at least 1 (Maybe more) Mission Outreach available for us to involve ourselves in GIVING - GOING and DOING.
I am still working on finalizing plans on our 1st Missions Outreach … watch for more details –
Then as well – we are in the process of partnering with the Red Cross to schedule a Blood Drive in late Feb/Mar (So roll up your sleeves!)
In order for us to accomplish these task / goals / - we must 1st realize – we cannot do this in our own strength … it is God WORKING THROUGH US AS WE ARE OBEDIENT TO HIM!

So God in 2012 – has a lot in store for us ... IF we will be obedient to where and what God would have for us to today!
